The Flames Of Hope Foundation’s Fight Against Gender Based Violence
Programme of action against Gender Based Violence, neglect and
exploitation to mobilize communities in addressing issues of violence
against woman and children in our country.
Gender Based Violence (GBV) is an umbrella term
used to describe any harmful act that is perpetuated
against a person’s will on the basis of unequal relations
between women and men, social, cultural identities
that include roles, expectations, limitations, status as
well as abuse of power. Statistics continue to show the
increasing levels of GBV in our country.

The society we live in is currently experiencing Gender Based Violence cases of pandemic proportions as a result of stressful lockdown periods that have since passed. Because families were forced by law to stay in the same space, the ugliness and scale of Gender Based Violence became a pandemic on its own hence the need to stand up and actively work towards changing that status. We believe strongly that if this society is to change its
attitude towards the treatment of women, children and such vulnerable groups then we have to take on the responsibility of educating and changing the attitudes of the man and boys, women and young girls, and youth as they are the future.
I look forward to effective collaboration with the media and private sector to
achieve the expected outcome of the strategy that will contribute to
government’s development agenda outlined in the Department Of Social
Development Plan and Vision 2030.
Teaching young women about equality
Dismantling patriarchy
Teaching young men about toxic masculinity and how
it should be shunned
Sensitizing the youth about the Law dealing with
gender based criminal activity
Motivating young people to understand their value
Demystifying the myth gender roles
Creating a sustainable support group for gender based
crimes victims
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused deep concerns about the impact on women in abusive relationships. Numerous articles in the South African media have pointed to the increased risk women in these relationships face under lockdown conditions.
The fear now is that they are trapped inside with their abusers, unable to leave, escape or reach out for help. Our country has reported a spike in cases of domestic violence under lockdown.
Our concern about Gender Based Violence has
had a positive impact in our country in these cases, The Flames of Hope Foundation will work closely with Social Development and other big organizations (NGOs and NPOs) to ensure that services remain accessible and available to victims of Gender Based Violence.
Our goal plan.
Address the systematic failure to respond to Gender Based Violence (GBV) in our communities.
The Flames Of Hope Foundation will work towards achieving the following:
Improved access to justice for GBV survivors.
A better informed public about the laws, rights and responsibilities underpinned by a public education campaigns around survivors’ rights under the law, challenging the use and accessibility of Gender Based
Violence, fatherly and related forms of discrimination and inequalities;
To improve access to Care, Support and prevention services and interventions through strengthened support for those involved in response and prevention, including civil society stakeholders;
Increased access to economic opportunities that set out meaningfullyaddress woman’s social and economic vulnerability.
